Organization Accomplishments
Over the past thirteen years, MCD has contributed to the community in many ways, a few of those are:
- Became a Community Development Financial Institution certified by the CDFI Fund of U.S. Department of Treasury with support of Technical Assistance grant of $100,000 from CDFI Fund and $50,000 from C.S. Mott Foundation.
- Established the first $100,000 micro-loan fund program with assistance from C.S. Mott Foundation
- Developed underwriting guidelines for Foreclosure Prevention Loans and Micro-Enterprise Loans
- Obtained a Youth Build Grant of $1.1 million from U.S. Department of Labor
- Received grant support of $1.5 million from C.S. Mott Foundation for general operations
- Received grant support of over $600,000 from financial institutions (since inception)
- Received grant support of over $200,000 from Ruth Mott Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Flint and United Way to leverage resources with State and Federal grants
- Planned, Organized and Hosted Flint Area Ambassador City Summit in partnership with Flint Area Association of Realtors.
- Technical assistance to nonprofits
- Coordinating body for Federal and State funding to Flint/Genesee Continuum of Care (CoC) – Plan and develop CoC annual strategy for federal and state funding. Obtained $20.3 million over ten years from HUD and in partnership with local nonprofits
- Created 325 units of Permanent Supportive Housing
- Established Homeless Prevention Endowment Fund with the Community Foundation of Greater Flint
- Established Homeless Management Information Systems in partnership with United Way and Michigan State Housing Development Authority
- Facilitate planning and implementation meetings
- Serve as Flint/Genesee County liaison for Continuum of Care
- Facilitated the development of 254 multifamily units leveraging federal funds with low income housing tax credits and MSHDA financing
- Facilitate MSHDA Emergency Shelter Grants approximately $3.2 million for Flint/Genesee County nonprofits
- Facilitated the development of Ten-Year plan to End Chronic homelessness for Flint/Genesee County and submitted to MSHDA as part of the State plan.
- Received funding from MSHDA to address components of the Ten Year Plan, in partnership with non-profit agencies:
- $1 million grant to provide Permanent Supportive Housing to unaccompanied homeless individuals
- $200,000 grant to provide Permanent Supportive Housing to homeless Youth
- $500,000 grant to rehab 12 units of Odyssey Housing to provide Permanent Supportive Housing to homeless families and individuals
- Received funding of $300,000 from County to plan and implement Tenant Based Rental Assistance.
- Implemented a $1.5 million Flint 2000 revitalization program (Third Avenue Corridor) in partnership with:
- Kettering University
- Hurley Medical Center
- University of Michigan
- C. S. Mott Foundation
- School/Community Program in Partnership with:
- Flint Community Schools
- Creation of Family Service Center with Department of Human Services.
Invested over $1 million in the school/community program raising funds from private sources.
- Summer Youth Initiative “Training Leaders of Tomorrow” for past six years in partnership with Community Foundation of Greater Flint and for the past three years in partnership with Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce. Invested over $700,000 in planning and implementing the program.
- Implemented a Ruth Mott Foundation initiative on developing Youth Ambassadors. The efforts of the Youth in the program led to the creation of “Its Our Neighborhood Too”.
- Established a $200,000 Home Retention Fund for Seniors to provide gap financing loans with Home Equity Conversion Mortgage. The program recently received approval from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- Home Counseling – Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM), Pre and Post Purchase Counseling to families, Foreclosure and default counseling to families and seniors, Smart Buyer Workshops including 16 hours of financial literacy to families.
- Through Metro’s Reverse Mortgage Counseling we have assisted over 299 senior families with loans for $19.8 million since Jan 1 2004 thru December 2009. This program focuses on assisting seniors to stay in their own homes and have better quality of life.
- Gap financing in partnership with Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission and City of Flint – assisted thirty families with new homes providing over $30,000 per family for eleven families.
- Down Payment and Closing Costs Assistance Program – 550 loans with $2.9 million leveraging $30 million in mortgages
- City of Mt. Morris – Planning of 200 acre PUD and development of 22 single family homes
- Rehabbed four homes using MSHDA Housing Purchase and Rehab Program funds in 2005 and 2006

A $1.5 million program assisting over 108 families with financial literacy training and developing savings of $1,000 matched with $3,000.00. The funds were provided for education, transportation, micro business set up and homeownership purposes
