FLINT, Michigan – Metro Community Development is pleased to announce the start of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-housing Program (HPRP) in Genesee County.
The purpose of the HPRP program is to assist households who have experienced significant financial setbacks as a direct result of the current economic climate in our community. The program is a federally funded initiative authorized under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
In Flint and Genesee County, the HPRP program is administered by the Genesee County Continuum of Care, through direct allocation grants from the City of Flint, Genesee County, and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. The Genesee County Continuum of Care chose Metro Community Development as the coordinating agency in a collaborative that also includes Catholic Charities of Genesee and Shiawassee Counties, the Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, the Genesee County Youth Corporation, My Brother’s Keeper, Flint Odyssey House, Resource Genesee, and the YWCA of Greater Flint.
The homeless prevention funding portion of the program will assist clients with back rent issues or overdue utility bills, with the purpose of sustaining households through a limited period of economic hardship. Rapid re-housing will assist homeless households by providing them with the resources to obtain a rental unit.
To qualify for the program, prospective clients will participate in a screening and intake process at the One Stop Housing Resource Center, located at 303 Water Street in Flint. If accepted to the program, clients will work together with an assigned case manager who will help a client become self sufficient during their time spent in the program.
